you’re gonna want to use certain tools to help you with the training let me go through a quick list that I put together one you either want to have a four foot leash or it’s six foot leash this is gonna help with all the leash pressure exercises that we’re going to be doing as well as walking on a loose leash now ideally when it comes to using a leash I like to use just basic nylon it’s easier to fold up it’s simple it’s light it’s cheaper you can get leather if you like but in my opinion the leather just doesn’t work as well as an easy nylon and sometimes I’ll even get the ones that are even a little bit thinner than this one but I do like this quite a bit this is a four foot leash and it works beautifully so nylon is usually my go-to and again it’s easier to fold up and put in your pocket or you know if you’re at the dog park you can wrap it around yourself so I like this we’re also going to want a 30 foot long line the 30 foot long line is going to help us teach fetch you can also use it for the stay command and it can also come into play when you’re teaching a recall so that’s something you’re probably going to want to be able to use in your training so pick one of those up as well another collar that I like to recommend for somebody to use is a martingale collar flat collar works great what I like about the martingale collar is it really prevents the dog from slipping their head out in the videos I’m gonna be using just a normal flat collar with the puppy so the flat collar can work martingales are great colors to use and I do highly recommend them another great tool is going to be a harness a harness is something that I use when I want my dog to pull sometimes people say I put a harness on my dog and my dog pulls everywhere well yeah cuz that’s what a harness is for it’s designed for the dog to be able to pull so I want to use that as far as building my dogs confidence or exercising my dogs when my dogs get older a lot of times I’ll rollerblade them when they have the harness on when they’re young puppy I’m gonna use this for confidence-building exercises I’m gonna take the puppy out and I’m gonna let him explore and I’m gonna let him pull me around and control the entire situation it’s perfectly fine dogs are able to separate walking on a harness in comparison to walking on their flat collar or their martingale and they’re gonna know the difference between the two so harness is great for building a little bit of confidence getting the dog to explore and have some fun you’re gonna want to crate now when it comes to crate training we want the crate to be just big enough for the dog to stand up turn around and lay down this is only for potty training because we don’t want the dog to be able to go on one side of the crate go to the bathroom and then sleep on the other side dogs don’t like to go to the bathroom where they eat or where they sleep so if you have the crate just big enough for them to tan stand up turn around and lay down they’re gonna be less likely to go to the bathroom in the crate and it’s gonna teach them to hold their bladder if they’re already potty trained then you can have a crate the sizer house doesn’t really matter at that point but we want to make sure when we’re potty training them the crate is just big enough for them to do those things next you’re gonna want to have some toys the power of plane with your dog is incredibly huge and it’s something you want to do you want to play with your dog that’s going to build the relationship it’s going to build their confidence and its really gonna make their life more enjoyable and more balanced we always want that balanced dog so go out there get a bunch of toys and play with these toys with your dog I don’t recommend leaving the toys scattered throughout the house though because what ends up happening is the toys no longer had the value because the dogs can get access to it whenever they want I like to use toys as a training opportunity so it gives me an opportunity to train with my dog there’s more value because they don’t have it all the time and that’s going to increase the speed in which my dog is going to learn but toys are super important you’re also going to want to climb bed or some sort of elevated position for your dog to be able to go on – this is one of those commands that if you teach your dog the climb command the climb stay you can use in so many opportunities I use it when we’re sitting down to eat dinner out put the dogs on a climb use it when you’re watching TV and maybe you don’t want the dogs on the couch if you let your dogs on the couch or if you don’t let your dogs in the couch they have a place that they can go to and they can sleep and relax there’s so many different opportunities for the climb command so it’s good to pick up your dog a little dog bed that you can use for this training and it’s also a great spot for them to go to and relax and if you have young kids I always recommend let the dog know that the climb bed is their safe space that’s their place that nobody will bother them so if you have kids that sometimes have a tendency to get a little excited and sometimes it can create some stress on the dog the knows that they can go over to their bed that is a release or a relief for them and they’re gonna go there if they feel a little overwhelmed and it’s a just a great way to keep the dog balanced so highly recommend giving the climb bed and then lastly you’re gonna want a training vest so this right here is my training vest it has pouches where I can put my food my treats my toys you can also get so these are a little bit more expensive if you want it to order them online but we also have just basic training pouches that you can find at any pet store they hook around your waist you could put it behind your back so your dog doesn’t see it and that’s somewhere where you can put the food so you’re not having to always put it into your pocket and that’s gonna help with your training as well so get this equipment and let’s get ready to train [Music] …
