tonight I’m showing you my lumber storage rack this lumber storage rack is a design that I’ve used now for years in two different garage shops it is strong sturdy and I’ve never had a problem with it I wish I could say it was my design but I’m pretty sure I saw it somewhere and decided I would build it and try it out one of the keys to this lumber storage rack is that every 2×4 is cut on either end with a 5 degree angle this helps keep the supports from tipping down when they’re loaded with lumber all you need is some half-inch plywood and a few two by fours you’ll also need some lag bolts and basic construction screws to build this I first determined how high I wanted myself to be for me this was 43 inches I set my miter saw to cut a 5 degree angle and cut a bunch of 4 inch blocks in each block I then drilled a hole all the way through so the lack bolt would essentially slip through the hole the next step was to cut the lumber supports to 20 inches long with a 5 degree angle at either end using some scraps of plywood I cut two pieces at three and a half inch wide for each set of supports this plywood will hold all the blocks in place in relation to each other the assembly and spacing of these blocks on the plywood are determined by the width of the two by four after spreading them all out I screwed the plywood to the blocks to lock in their position make sure that you keep these blocks all as tight together as possible it doesn’t have to be clamped tight just hand tight [Music] once one side of a screw to the blocks I screwed the other side on alternating the position of the screws with the opposite side so they weren’t in the same corner [Music] to install these in place I helped them on the wall lined up with the studs and used a skinny pencil to mark the position on the wall I then went back and pre-drill the hole into the stud for the light bulb this will help the lag bolt not split your step I installed the 6-inch lag bolts in each set into the wall and then slid the lumber supports into the slots after installing the first set I put a board on it and leveled the other side before drilling the holes into the studs by installing the sets one at a time you can make sure they’re all level to each other after you put everything in place make sure to hang on it so you can feel like you did a good job building something that can support a human and then load your lumber storage rack up with lumber this was designed in a way that the weight of the lumber is transferred directly to the lag bolts that are going into the wall those lag bolts are designed to handle a sheer load so they can take the weight of it I currently have these lumber storage racks in two different places in my shop if you need a lumber storage rack in your shop you can totally do this it’s fast it’s easy it’s cheap and it’s super strong make sure to hit subscribe if you haven’t already so you can see all of the videos I’m producing and see whatever the latest content is see you next time [Music] you …
