Memorize Every Major & Minor Chord Forever [EASY]

the famous 4+1 method is the fastest way by far to memorize all the major and minor chords and remember them forever we’re going to take the complexity of all these chords and simplify them into four basic chord shapes and then we add an important last step to solidify these so that you never forget this step’s absolutely critical for adult beginners so please do not skip it let’s get started all right so first we’re going to start with the major chords now every major chord is made up of three notes the bottom note the middle note and the top note with a space in between each now this first shape I call the hamburger shape cuz it kind of looks like a hamburger with the bun the hamburger and the bun on top but the official name is white white white cuz guess what it’s all white notes I know real challenging huh now this hamburger shape is used for three chords the first is C major so to find a C major chord simply start on C and then find your hamburger shape and boom that’s a C major chord the second is F major so to find an F major chord find your F build the hamburger shape and this is an F major chord and the third is a G major chord same thing find your G and build your hamburger and this is a G major chord so now you know your first three chords c f and g but there’s a genius trick to remember that c f and g are the white note chords you’re going to use a simple pneumonic device just think of something for each letter that is white so I use clouds flower ghost SE e FG are the white note chords All Right Next Up shape number two is white black white so our first chord with this shape is D major so we find our D and it’s the exact same as before except instead of looking like this our hamburger shape it’s white black white so it actually looks like this with this black note in between it kind of has this triangle shape and this white black white pattern is the same for E major and a major and again we can quickly memorize the white black white chords by thinking of three things that are light on the outside and dark on the inside so I use dut egg avocado all right then shape three is simply the opposite of shape two so instead of white black white it’s just black white black so d flat major you find your d flat and it’s black white black looks like an upside down triangle shape same thing with E flat major and a flat major now these are a bit tricky because sometimes it’s not obvious which middle white note to use so if you’re not sure all you got to do is Count three notes down from the top so if we have our d flat major we count 1 2 3 and this is going to be our middle note same with our E flat major 1 2 3 this is going to be our white middle note now to remember these you’ll notice these are actually the exact same chords is shape number two just with a flat attached onto the end very simple so instead of d E A we have d flat E flat and a flat all right then shape number four we’re going to get to in a sec because there is something odd about this shape that we’re going to talk about later but first you’re going to be pumped about this let me show you a brilliant way to learn all of the minor chords in one Fell Swoop so the simple trick for minor chords is all you have to do is move the middle note down one that’s it so if we have our C major chord we move the middle note down one and it becomes C minor chord F major this is F minor D Major D Minor A flat major a flat minor and this works exactly the same for every single chord piece of cake all right now before I get onto this final chord shape there is one trap that always trips up beginners at this point so to explain this let’s say I have a train with these three cars well guess what if I switch the order of the cars it’s still the same train just in a different order all right so similarly if we take take our C major chord and we switch the order of the notes so instead of c e g we just play c e g well guess what this is still a C major chord because it has the same notes we could even play c e g and this is a C major chord or we could play c g c e g c that’s still a C major chord because it uses the notes c e and G that’s why you might see a video say hey the first chord of the song is G major and instead of this it looks like this because they’re using the same chords in a different order and this same principle applies to all of the CHS all right now let’s move on to the final shape and then we’ll talk about the plus one which is the most important technique to actually remember these if you don’t learn the plus one nothing we learned today is going to actually stick in your brain it’s going to go one ear and out the other but first this final group of chords is what I call the wild cards because Unfortunately they don’t have a specific shape they’re just kind of random so the reality is you kind of just got to Brute Force memorize these but luckily there’s only three of them the first one is our G flat major it’s all the black notes then we have B major looks like this so white black black and then finally B flat major looks like this so black white white now the easiest way to memorize all of these is to Simply get the cheat sheet that has all of these major and minor chords organized by shape I’ll have a link to that up here or in the description and then we’ll move on to the final most important step
